His Garden

Your garden, a paradise,

is now filled with cracked

pavements with black ants

climbing the vines,

burrowing, and eating

the zucchinis and cucumbers

from the inside.

They plummet to the soil,

lying there as seasons

pass becoming scattered rot.

Red tomatoes, plumed and vital

like your heart pumping blood

still remain. When ripened, their core

taste too sweet and squishy. They are

not the same when you grew them.

Your garden Nonno, remains since August.
